Multi Use Submersible Borehole Pumps
There are a number of industrial sectors in South Africa that make extensive use of submersible borehole pumps. These pumps are especially useful due to the fact that they can operate completely submerged in the liquid that is pumped. This capability is made possible by the fact that the submersible borehole pump is hermetically sealed. Submersible borehole pumps are used in a variety of different industrial and other sectors within the South African economy where the robust construction and high efficiency of these types of pumps is invaluable.
The variety of sectors using submersible borehole pumps includes the agricultural sector, mining, water treatment, including sewage treatment and the construction industry. The use of submersible pumps in boreholes is especially important in the agricultural sector in times of draught when limitations of the amount of water that can be sequestered from riverine sources are limited by legislation. In times like this farmers will use submersible borehole pumps to obtain water from groundwater sources.
Submersible pumps are also in widespread use in the oil exploration industry where they are placed at the bottom of wells to pump out excess water which can interfere with the oil pumping operations. The ability of the newer submersible borehole pumps to separate water and oil prior to pumping the water to the surface has dramatically improved oil production.
Submersible borehole pumps usually comprise two separate sections, one consisting of the pump which is situated in the borehole and the other, usually consisting of the control equipment, including power source located above ground. This configuration allows the persons operating the pump to set the pumping rate and other parameters involved in the pumping process.
The submersible borehole pumps are also available for medium and long term leases, which is especially useful for those businesses that only require the services of the pump for a specific part of a project or during a specific season.
